About the Insane Performance S55 4-Pin Crank Hub
The Insane Performance S55 crank hub is a one-piece upgraded crank hub designed specifically for BMW's S55 engine.
Insane Performance specifies the hub as manufactured from heat-treated steel and precision-machined using 5-axis CNC equipment.
This product is the 4-pin version, providing four mechanical locating points between the upgraded hub and crankshaft when correctly installed.
The pinned design creates a positive mechanical connection between the crankshaft and upgraded hub rather than relying solely on the factory friction-based arrangement.
Why Upgrade the BMW S55 Crank Hub?
The BMW S55 engine uses a factory crank hub and timing-drive arrangement that has become a well-known concern among BMW performance owners and specialists.
If the factory crank hub moves relative to the crankshaft, the engine timing can also move from its intended position. This is commonly referred to as a slipped or spun crank hub.

Installation of a pinned S55 crank hub requires specialist BMW timing equipment, accurate crankshaft positioning, precision drilling and correct engine reassembly.
For customers who do not want the component on its own, Swift Performance offers the complete installation for £1,950 including VAT.
Our workshop procedure includes removal of the engine sump during drilling so the area can be properly cleaned and inspected before reassembly.
